Monster Hunter - Legends Of The Guild

Ten years ago, Aiden was a teenager living in a small mountain village. Since the village is so small and remote, the people cannot afford the time or zenny (the in-world currency) required to go to the nearest Guild-house whenever some minor monster makes a pest of itself. Aiden had taken it upon himself to hunt down these monsters for his neighbors. He is sent into the wild to find the monster that stole some livestock from the village, only to encounter a Velocidrome, a large, blue, Velociraptor-like Bird Wyvern. Aiden is almost eaten by the monster until Julius, a Hunter from the guild, saves him and escorts him back to the village. Soon Aiden learns from Julius that the monster that took the livestock, an anthropomorphic catlike Lynian creature called a Melynx, was the true culprit and the tracks Aiden was following were fake. Aiden finds the hideout of the Melynx, named Nox. Aiden captures Nox and brings him to the village to show Julius. He soon learns from the Wyverian leader that an Elder Dragon, a monster that can devastate the environment and leave mass destruction in its wake, is on its migration path to the New World, which will bring it through Aiden's village.

Monster Hunter - Legends of the Guild

That being said, it does a great job in recreating the experience of playing a Monster Hunter game while expanding on its world in subtle but significant ways. We see more of the day-to-day goals of hunters, trying to do more than just achieve glory and better weapons, like studying a Nerscylla or calculating the wingspan of Lunastra. It also comments on the act of hunting itself in a way the games only hint at. For example, the idea of poaching becomes an important part of the film, as Julius explains that hunters used to kill monsters in excess before the guild was founded, which threw the world out of balance and ruined the ecosystem. If we get more Legends of the Guild movies, this is something that could prove to be a fascinating addition to the lore of the games.

Parents need to know that Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild is an animated adaptation of the Monster Hunter video game that's geared toward younger fans of the franchise. The fantasy adventure features a young monster hunter hopeful who teams up with a group of Guild soldiers. Together they use their wits and skill to fight monsters and save a village from destruction by a fire-breathing dragon. Strong female characters help the team pull off the mission. When characters make mistakes, there are immediate consequences and attempts to make it right. Violence includes large guns/cannons and swords used to battle monsters and moments of peril. Some characters don't survive the final stand against the dragon as they sacrifice themselves to save the others. Kids will learn the value of perseverance, teamwork, and overcoming past mistakes.

In MONSTER HUNTER: LEGENDS OF THE GUILD, humans and monsters live in an uneasy balance. A young aspiring monster hunter named Aiden (Dante Basco) tries to prove to his village and himself that he has what it takes to become a monster hunter. He encounters an Ace Hunter from the Guild named Julius (Brando Markus) who warns him of a migrating dragon destroying everything in its path. They work together to save Aiden's village from impending doom. Along the way, they form a mentor-mentee bond where Julius teaches Aiden the ways of the monster hunters and Aiden reminds Julius of what it really means to be a hunter. The pair team up with other characters who use their brains and brawn to outsmart the monsters and save the village.

Families can talk about how Aiden's assumptions about being a monster hunter were different from the reality he learned from Julius. When have your expectations about something been different from what it was really like?

A short synopsis on Netflix gives us a hint of what the story will be. "A young man named Aiden, who calls himself a hunter, protects his isolated village. One day, he learns that his village is threatened by an Elder Dragon, a monster cloaked in mystery. Needing to find a way to save his village, Aiden leaves his home and sets off on a journey into the unknown alongside Julius, a first-rate hunter and member of the Hunter's Guild, and his companions."

In Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild, young Aiden tries to save his new home, the village of Timben, from an Elder Dragon as he can't stand to lose another one the way he did when he was seven. This story focuses on him trying to show Julius and Nadia he can be a hunter too, informing their journeys in the Capcom video game series. And as expected, this precursor has many popular monsters from the various games.

Compared to the Monster Hunter movie from Paul W.S. Anderson, Legends of the Guild will let us feast on much more monster-on-monster/hunter action. From the trailer alone, we can see that at least nine monsters will show up through the 58-minutes duration of the movie:

An academic hunter who loves studying monsters, she records everything there is to know about monsters and speaks very quickly thanks to her knowledge and curiosity. Mae is skilled at observation, analysis, and hunting arts. In combat, she wields an Insect Glaive (debuted in Monster Hunter 4) along with her trusted Kinsect partner, Paisley.

Aiden's out working on something relatively unrelated to hunting when he bumps into Julius, whom game players will recognize as the Ace Commander. Julius may have the charm of a grumpy wildebeest, but he is clearly very, very good at what he does, and he's not as averse to helping Aiden as he tries to appear. Not that he's ever particularly nice to the boy, but he does take the time to help him learn about fighting, environmentalism, and to allow him to give the skillet back to whoever Aiden took it from by providing real armor. What Julius is doing out in those wilds is something Aiden is less thrilled with: he's telling villages to pack up and move out because a lunastra, a type of female dragon, is headed their way, driving a stampede of other monsters eager to get out of her way before her. By the guild's reasoning, if the horde doesn't decimate the villages, the lunastra certainly will, and they'd like to prevent loss of life.

Nature is finely balanced between the actions of humans and the monsters that roam the world. So, when a migrating threatens the village of young monster hunter Aiden, he teams up with an elite team of veteran hunters to help save his home.

Legends of the Guild acts as a prequel to both of the aforementioned titles, as it follows the backstory of Aiden, a young Ace Hunter that you will have likely encountered on your monster slaying journey. This well-worn narrative sees Aiden transform from a scrappy teenager to a seasoned hunter after he is tasked with defending his village against the rampage of an all-power Elder Dragon. Much of the plot focuses on Aiden forging together a plan of attack and learning the ways of being a hunter from his newfound mentor Julius.

The 3D animated flick tells the story of Aiden, a young self-proclaimed hunter, who embarks on an epic journey to save his village from a migrating fire breathing monster known as an Elder Dragon. As many can infer from the tweeted poster and trailer below, Aiden will not accomplish his mission alone since he recruits some allies along the way. 041b061a72
